What’s the plan?
The online spaces we occupy in the current world tend to be run by “big tech”. Since the dawn of the internet, different companies have been fighting for our attention.
In my lifetime I have seen the rise and fall of MySpace, Tumblr, Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter. While some of these spaces are still popular with different demographics, the problem with them persists. You give away your information, they commodify your time, advertise to your perceived interests, and they are not guaranteed.
This space I am creating is mine. No advertisements, no algorithm, no commodification of time. A place were I get to write, upload photos, play around with code and spend time for myself.
I like to think about it as a small protest against current popular online spaces.
I am aware that it is unlikely that this site will be popular with the masses, but that is not the aim. I am putting myself virtually out there, a living website that is for me, by me.
This is not my first venture into online spaces. When I was around 13 I ran a fairly popular blog about an online game at the time. I created that for different reasons, but a similarity across more than a decade is that I am doing this to perhaps learn something new, to have a creative outlet, and hopefully to connect with a few like minded people.
In reality this space is likely to change as I change. But my aim is to post and write consistently. So if you are reading this, please do let me know what your thoughts are, and check back from time to time to see how things go.
